The three-day U14 Baltic Cup tournament ended in Anyksciai, Lithuania last weekend with a home success as Juste Veronika Jocyte was crowned MVP of the competition. (Photos www. krepsinionamai.lt )

The host nation finished on the top step of the podium, thanks mainly to their leading light, who racked up 22 points on the Final day in a big 69-47 victory against Belarus.

Lithuania went undefeated during the event, also amassing comprehensive 70-60 wins against Latvia and a mammoth 77-29 triumph against Estonia.

As well as Jocyte landing MVP honors, there was also a place in the All-Star Five for Gerda Raulusaityte as she just pipped Rusne Augustinaite who also enjoyed a productive tournament. The trio are names to watch out for at future #FIBAU16Europe events, mostly likely during either 2019 or 2020.

There were also some other names to note down from those that made up the remainder of that All-Tournament Team. Latvia had Luize Sila starring for them, while Belarus relied heavily on Palina Varabeyi and Estonia had Diana Svedovskaya to thank for not suffering even heavier losses.

Also in Lithuania, who will host this year’s FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship in Kaunas during August, there was a major camp for U15 talent in the city. This included the likes of Jocyte.

Co-ordinator Lina Brazdeikytė evaluated the girls and commented: “The year was very interesting and very intense. Girls this year first participated in the European Youth Basketball League (EYBL). Participation in the EYBL was at high risk, but proved to be good.

“We see the result, we have girls who are keen to play, able to carry out the difficult things that we demand.”
