WEEK 3: New York Catholic High Schools Athletic Association boys’ hoops springtime tournament (Updated results thru May 4)
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — The New York Catholic High Schools Athletic Association is up and running in a special boys’ basketball springtime tournament format. Due to the COVID-19 coronavirus the CHSAA did not hold a 2020-21 season but one of the nation’s top prep leagues have a backup plan just as the school year is winding down.
According to the plan, teams will play at least four games within four pools and all games will be played at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains or in Westchester County, which sits over the Bronx borough line. All games will be streamed by LocalLive. No spectators will be allowed but approved media can attend. Only team personnel, school officials and league representatives will be permitted in the gym.
After two weeks, the standings are taking shape and are updated them heading toward the midway point of pool play.
Blue Star Media’s Christopher Lawlor updates the scores and pool standings daily of the 22 teams that decided to participate in the CHSAA sanctioned event. There are two rounds of playoffs with the semifinals on May 23 and 24, and two title games on May 27.
Additionally, there is a Senior Combine, aimed to give players from the Class of 2021, giving exposure lost during the pandemic. — Christopher Lawlor
