No. 8 Miami Central (FL), No. 13 St. Edward (OH) record key wins; Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings static for the first time this season
BENSALEM, Pa. – It was a quiet week for the Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings.
There was no movement with 22 teams winning and three sitting out this week with a bye.
No. 8 Central (Miami) stopped Booker T. Washington (Miami), 36-19, to record an impressive win in south Florida. In Ohio, No. 13 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) edged Elder (Cincinnati) by three points in a game that could be a preview for the OHSAA Division I title game. Both teams are among the top-5 in Ohio’s largest division and could meet again in December for the hardware.
It might have been quiet on the Elite 25 front but the biggest news came out of the United Kingdom with the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 8. Her reign began in 1952 and stretched 70 years. The Queen was aged 96.
The world has always been fascinated by the Royal Family but Elizabeth was particularly the steady hand that ruled. She was dignified, generally beloved and will be missed. She served the people of the United Kingdom and the commonwealths and God.
She will be interned on Sept. 19 at Windsor Castle in London. God Save the Queen!
We’re sure the world will be watching.
OK, back to the gridiron where this weekend are two televised games of interest.
The GEICO ESPN High School Showcase features a doubleheader this weekend, starting on Thursday with No. 4 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) heading south to face Lehigh (Lehigh Acres, Fla.) at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2. Then it’s an intersectional matchup in Nevada as No. 11 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) entertains Brookwood (Snellville, Ga.) at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
That’s it for another week.
The Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings return on Sept. 20, chronicling the first six weeks of play. Don’t forget to check out the latest Blue Star Media Net 25 volleyball rankings.
Also, say a prayer for all those affected or lost their lives on 9/11. It’s hard to believe but it’s been 21 years and I remember like it was yesterday. I live about 10 miles from the site of the former World Trade Centers. Ground Zero continues to amaze and give back following the attack on America.
Until then remain safe. We hope to see you at a game soon. – Christopher Lawlor
