Camden blue chip guard DJ Wagner, whose father and grandfather both played in the NBA, has finalizedan endorsement deal with Nike.
He is one of five elite amateur stars to sign with the shoe company giant. The others are LeBron James’ son Bronny of Sierra Canyon High, Iowa guard Caitlin Clark, Stanford guard Haley Jones and star women’s guard JuJu Watkins of Sierra Canyon as Nike dives into the women’s teenage cumstomer and womean’s rmarket.
James, who just turned 18, has already been incorporated into the rollout of the LA Lakers’ superstar’s newest signature shoe, the Nike LeBron 20. LeBron, signed a lifetime contract with Nike in 2015, and recently unveiled the LeBron James Innovation Center at the company’s Beaverton, Ore. headquarters.
“For as long as I can remember, Nike’s been part of my family,” Bronny said. “Getting a chance to team up with them and continiue my family’s legacy, both on the court and in the community is wild– and it really means a lot to me.”
Nike specifically partnered with athletes who are paving the way for the next generation on and off the court. It will team up with each student-athlete on a variety of community efforts in their hometowns. All five currently pay for Nike-sponsored schools.n
Wagner is the top-ranked point guard in the class of 2023. His grandfather Milt was drafted by Dallas in 1986 after Louisville won the NCAA touranment and played with both the Lakers and the Miami Heat. His father was the sixth pick in the 2002 NBA draft out of Memphis and played on the same Cleveland Cavs’ team with LeBron James.
Clark, a junior, is a unanimous first team All American and Big Ten Player of the Year.
Jones, a senior,, was the NCAA tournament’s oustanding Player during Stanford’s 2021 national championship season.
Watkins is considered the best women’s prospect in the country.
