No. 20 Summer Creek (TX) enters Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings; No. 22 Corona (CA) Centennial runs it up with 63 points during intersectional matchup
BENSALEM, Pa. – There have been more exciting weeks in the Blue Star Media Elite 25 high school football rankings.
Everyone who was favored to win, pulled out victories and there was one team added to the Elite 25 from the Lone Star State.
No. 20 Summer Creek Bulldogs of Humble, Texas (near Houston) debuts in the Elite 25 after a 3-0 start to the season. The Bulldogs shut out three opponents, walloping them by 42, 52 and 62 points in succession. This weekend they face winless Channelview in District 23-6A. Along the way, the Bulldogs have key district matchups with Atascocita (Humble) on Oct. 4 and No. 7 North Shore (Galena Park) on Nov. 8—both are home games.
No. 22 Corona (Calif.) Centennial recorded a 63-39 victory over then-No. 14 Liberty (Peoria, Ariz.). Husan Longstreet tossed four TDs passes but the Huskies relied on the defense in the fourth quarter with two pick-sixes to seal it.
This week’s Elite 25 featured limited movement. No. 25 Liberty dipped 11 slots after the loss. Eight teams moved up and 15 remained the same, including the top-11. Looking ahead to next weekend there are seven teams on their bye weeks, namely No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) and No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.).
We are nearly halfway through the regular in some states and the playoffs looming in October.
That’s it for another week. The Blue Star Media Elite 25 rankings return on Oct. 1.
I’m Just Saying: With the Major League Baseball regular season ending on Sunday, Sept. 29. The wild card rounds will be played next week and onto the divisional and league series. Heading into the final week, the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers will meet again in the World Series. They last met in the Fall Classic in 1981 with the Dodgers winning in six games after trailing by two games.
Bye for now.
We hope to see you at a game soon. – Christopher Lawlor
