QUIET: Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings have no movement; No. 11 Corona (CA) Centennial coach picks up 300th victory
BENSALEM, Pa. – For the first time this season, the Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings had no movement.
However, there were oodles of points scored. No. 1 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) hung 70 points; No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) had 63 in a shutout win; No. 12 Bixby (Okla.) had 81; No. 20 Basha (Chandler, Ariz.) dropped 56 in blanking its opponent and No. 21 Liberty (Peoria, Ariz.) scored 71 in rout.
Elsewhere, head coach Matt Logan of No. 11 Corona (Calif.) Centennial picked up his historic 300th victory in his 29thseason. Logan’s team blasted Roosevelt (Eastvale), 62-20, on Thursday, Oct. 2. Logan became the 15th coach in California history to reach the milestone. The Huskies improved to 5-1.
Logan, 58, has guided the Huskies to 10 sectional championships. In 2015, Logan guided his team to the Division 1 championship and remains the only team other than St. John Bosco and Mater Dei to do so.
Kudos to the coach!
The season is winding down in some states and that means the games are more meaningful with postseason only weeks away.
This weekend, there are five games of interest: Friday has No. 18 Milton (Alpharetta, Ga.) vs. Gainesville (Ga.) in a matchup of top Georgia 5A teams; No. 25 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah) hosts American Fork; No. 16 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) travels to Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) to decided supremacy in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and No. 11 Corona Centennial entertains 5-1 Vista Murrieta (Murrieta, Calif.) with a league title likely decided.
On Saturday, No. 22 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey) makes a short trip to archrivals St. Joseph Regional (Montvale). There’s a strong chance the two will hook up in NJSIAA Non-Public A playoffs in November.
Well, that’s it for the first week of October. The Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings return on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
