Asia Durr to announce college choice

One of the top high school seniors in the country will be announcing her college choice next week.

Asia Durr, a 5-foot-10 guard from St. Pius X Catholic in Atlanta, will reveal her decision at the school on Tuesday.

Her finalists are, in alphabetical order, Baylor, Duke, Louisville, Maryland and Notre Dame.

Durr is the No. 2 player in Blue Star Basketball’s Class of 2015 rankings. She also is No. 2 with ESPN’s HoopGurlz, and is rated No. 1 by Prospects Nation.

Durr is the reigning two-time Miss Georgia Basketball and is the current Gatorade Georgia High School Player of the Year. She has led the St. Pius Lions to the last two Georgia High School Association Class AAA state championships.

This summer she was a member of the USA Under-17 team that won the FIBA World Championships and was the second-leading scorer on the team with 13.4 ppg average.

In paring down her college list this summer, Durr didn’t include any schools from the nearby Southeastern Conference. She also omitted UConn, which has received verbals from three Blue Star Top 10 players in the Class of 2015: No. 1 Katie Lou Samuelson, No. 4 Napheesa Collier and No. 9 DeJ’anae Boykin.

The Huskies are clearly in the lead as having the best class in the November signing period, but Durr’s suitors are also putting together strong groups.

Duke has received commitments from Blue Star No. 10 Kyra Lambert and No. 30 Faith Suggs. Committing to Notre Dame are No. 8 Marina Mabrey (sister of current Irish guard Michaela Mabrey) and No. 24 Ali Patberg.

All four of those players are guards.

Louisville’s haul thus far includes guards Brianna Jones and Taja Cole, both at No. 28, and Texas forward Erin DeGrate. Baylor also has a blue chip point in-state guard commitment from Alexandra Gulley, and Blue Star No. 60 Alyssa Dry, a combo guard from Fort Worth.

Pledging to Maryland are guard/forward Kiah Gillespie (No. 42) and center Brianna Fraser (No. 55).
