Car Crash Claims NWF’s Patrick Harrington

Once again the real world has thrown a dark cloud over the world of athletics.  The community of women’s basketball has again suffered the loss of a longtime friend and coach.  Patrick Harrington passed away Thursday one week after being involved in a head on collision.  His wife Lori was injured in the accident as well with broken ribs and cracked vertebrae.

Harrington, 51, was entering his fifth season as Head Coach at Northwest Florida in Niceville, Florida.  Over the previous four years he and the Lady Raiders compiled a 100 – 25 record.  Along the way he had stops at the University of Colorado, Oregon State, University of New Orleans, Southern Utah, Texas Pan-American, Newberry College and South Boston High School.  The Boston native played basketball and graduated from Rollins College in 1986.  He is survived by his wife Lori and their three children Kelly, Katherine and Patrick II.

The thoughts and prayers of Mike Flynn, Blue Star, USJN and Blue Star Media go out to Patrick’s family, friends and the players and staff of Northwest Florida in his sudden and tragic loss.
