BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– Starting with just a handful of teams three years ago, the BallN Powher Prep Invite has seen rapid growth, featuring 55 teams this year. Held in historic Birmingham, Alabama at G.W. Carver High School, the action took place on three separate courts, all under the same roof. The tournament featured talent for all levels, from major conference prospects, all the way down to impact Division II players.

Blue Star Media spent two days at the event that was ultimately won by Hazel Green High School (AL) as they defeated Columbus High School (GA). Here are some quick hitters on the prospects that caught our eye during our time in Birmingham.
Zipporah Broughton- 2018- Guard- Lee-Montgomery (Alabama)- Elite level athlete…Glides across the court…Good scorer in all ways…Solid on-ball defender…Needs to stay locked in for the whole game; tends to lose focus at times…Established and evolving elite player
Maya Buckhanon- 2018- Center- Talladega (Alabama)- A dominate force down low…Great hands…Shows off some great touch around the rim…Has a turnaround game in the low block… Conditioning needs work…Extremely strong, does what she wants down low
Jasmine Carson- 2018- Guard- Whitehaven (Tennessee)- Pushes the ball in transition…Good vision and makes unselfish passes…Athletic player with a solid stroke
Ka’Andria Childress- 2020- Point Guard- Wenonah (Alabama)- Can absolutely stroke it…In two games, hit at least 8 three-pointers…Ball handling and passing need some work…Keep an eye on her
Casey Core- 2019- Center- Auburn (Alabama)- Tall, long, lean post player…Very athletic…Still raw, but has the potential for a lot of growth in her low post game
Maori Davenport- 2019- Center- Charles Henderson (Alabama)- Athletic player who gets up and blocks shots…Great build…Runs the floor well…Good hands…Could be an impact player at the next level
Lannee Edwards- 2019- Guard- Southwest DeKalb (Georgia)- Good shooter from outside…Made several athletic moves at the rim to finish in traffic…Keep an eye on her
Brandi Ferby- 2017- Guard- Stewarts Creek (Tennessee)- Hard working two guard who locks up on D…Good set shooter…Can handle the ball fine…Tough player with a growing offensive game…Unsigned

Tonae Gates- 2019- Post- Clarke County (Alabama)- Undersized post, but works extremely hard…Pursues rebounds with a passion…A bit of a tweener as far as positions go, but with the right development, could become a blue collar player at next level
Caitlin Hose- 2018- Guard- Hazel Green (Alabama)- Extremely savvy and smart combo guard…Can score spotting up or off the dribble…Good ball handler and passer…Unselfish…Defends the ball well…Should be an impactful player at the next level

Niaira Jones- 2020- Point Guard- Charles Henderson (Alabama)- Quick PG who can score the ball…Does a lot of the little things…Always seems to be around the action
Ashton Lansdell- 2019- Guard- Wheeler (Georgia)- Good shooter with a pretty stroke…Has some athleticism…Needs to show consistent effort on defense…Keep an eye on her
Quintashia Leatherwood- 2020- Guard- Central (Alabama)- Lefty…Displayed some nice passing skills…Ball handling is solid but still could use a little word…Puts some zip on the ball when passing ahead…Keep your eye on her
Mackenzie Mahome- 2020- Wing- Central (Alabama)- Lean and athletic…Can get off the floor… Ball handling is OK but needs improvement…Raw with potential
Thaniya Marks- 2019- Center- Wenonah (Alabama)- Good, athletic body…Works hard on the boards…Raw offensively, but displayed some nice touch down low…Lots of possibilities
Dene’ Mimms- 2018- Forward- Warren Easton (Louisiana)- A true stretch four who can pour it in from outside…Long and athletic…Low post game needs some work…Can defender out on the perimeter…Very high ceiling
Anita Payne- 2018- Guard- Opelika (Alabama)- Great vision and passing ability…Very athletic… Works hard…Ball handling is solid…Can play both guard positions
Nissa Sam-Grant- 2018- Post- Wheeler (Georgia)- Tall, athletic post player…Good leaping ability…Raw offensively, but has potential
Tatyanna Wyatt- 2017- Wing- Columbus (Georgia)- Extremely fluid and smooth in the open court…Good stroke and ability to hit the three… Athletic…Can defend multiple positions…Finds a way to the rim…Kentucky signee
Blake DuDonis joins the Blue Star family this summer. During the 2014-15 season he served as an assistant with the University of Buffalo during their first ever run to a WNIT appearance. Prior to that, he worked on the staff at his alma mater, Gardner-Webb University as well serving on the bench at Merrimack College. Before entering the coaching ranks on a full time basis, he served two successful seasons as student assistant at GW as part of the programs first ever trips to the WNIT and NCAA. He currently resides with his fiancé’ in the Magnolia State of Mississippi.
