LAS VEGAS, Nev.—Blue Star 30: In three short years the event has become synonymous with any definition of “the best” on the girls basketball landscape. The coveted opportunity to be among those selected for the elite of all invitational camps is targeted and actively sought by the players, coaches and families of the next generation of top tier prospects. Those chosen get the chance to challenge themselves training, competing and growing among their elite peers, nationally renowned coaching and the “who’s who” of media and evaluators.
The third edition of Blue Star 30 tipped off Wednesday with members of the 2016 and 2017 BS 30 classes being joined by a new, hand-picked 2018 group anxious to prove their worth among their established predecessors.
As with the 2017 event in National Harbor, Maryland, this year’s schedule opened with a FIBA 3 on 3 qualifying tournament presented by Metropath Sports. Winners (Finals are scheduled for Thursday morning) earn an opportunity to compete in the USA Basketball qualifying competition next year in Colorado Springs. After one day of competition 16 teams remain in contention for top honors and a shot at wearing red, white and blue. In the three point competition Azzi Fudd (2021 – Virginia) edged Sasha Goforth (2020 – Arkansas) for long ball bragging rights.
Things hit high gear Thursday with instruction, competition and the chance to compete utilizing the innovative Blue Star 7 approach and philosophy. Players take on a new way of thinking, playing and scoring the game in another test run leading up to a full-fledged tournament slated to be on the 2019 spring and summer club schedule.
