STOCKHOLM, Sweden— Day two of the Blackeberg Basketball Cup started the way day one ended for the Blue Star 30 squad. The only difference between Friday’s game one was that competitive first quarter which was nowhere in sight Saturday as the 30’s jumped out to a 31 – 4 lead and never looked back. It was understood coming in that some of the opponents might not measure up and this particular match up validated that point. AIK Basket went scoreless in the second period, posted five in the third and finished the game with a total of just 10 points. Blue Star 30 pulled the reigns on the offense throughout the second half but still went over the century mark for the second game in a row by way of their 104 total with a left handed free throw by Sammie Wagner (San Antonio, Texas) chalking up the games 100thpoint. Wagner paced the scoring Saturday morning with 20 followed by Jadyn Donovan (Upper Marlboro, Maryland) and Jada Williams (Blue Springs, Missouri) with 16 apiece. All seven Blue Star 30 players produced double figure scoring efforts. A testament to the sportsmanship and welcoming atmosphere meeting the Blue Star Players here in Stockholm was a post-game T-Shirt presentation and photo session with their AIK Basket opponents.
KFUM Blackebergs IK Vit was able to put a few more points on the board (23) in Saturday’s evening game. Unfortunately for them the seven player Blue Star 30 roster erupted for 150 points over the course of a 40 minute game. Regardless of opponent, that’s a statement given it was also their third game in a 24 hour period. Making the accomplishment even more impressive was the fact that a brief afternoon tour to “Old Town” Stockholm went into double overtime as a result of some traffic changes for a road race negating any meaningful rest between the two Saturday matchups. Blue Star 30 hit the 100 point mark in the third and entered the fourth with 111 points already on the board. All they did in across the final period was produce 39 more points and shut out their opponents to put an exclamation mark on the win. Williams lit things up with 32 points while Emma Risch (West Melbourne, Florida) added 29 more. Wagner and Donovan crossed the 20 point barrier as well finishing with 23 and 20 respectively.
