New Orleans, LA – Blue Star Basketball has announced the first annual Blue Star Saturday event to be held in conjunction with the NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four in New Orleans.  The action is set for Saturday, April 4, 2020, the day between the NCAA Division I National Semifinals and 2020 National Championship Game.

“Blue Star Saturday is going to be a special celebration of girls’ basketball and the Final Four is the perfect setting for what is going to become an annual event,” said Mike Flynn, founder and owner of Blue Star Basketball / Blue Star Media. “We are going to assemble a great group of young ladies to come to New Orleans and compete as well as experience the excitement of the Final Four.”

Blue Star Saturday will be a one day, invitation only, All-Star event welcoming girls’ basketball players from all over the world to compete in a full day of All-Star Games. Rosters will be comprised of standout attendees from Rising Blue Star and Blue Star Combine Camps, to be held across North America this fall, as well as from Blue Star Travel Teams and the four current classes of Blue Star 30.

“All of the different sources and events from which our team will be inviting players will have representation,” Flynn said. “In Autumn each year we have our Rising Blue Star Camps across the US and Canada and, additionally, this year we have added the Blue Star Combine for older players. Our Blue Star evaluators at each event will provide their input on the best players on hand who, in turn, we’ll invite to New Orleans.”

This year’s Rising Blue Star Camps are offered for players in grades 5-8 with the new Blue Star Combine focusing on the high school players grades 9-11.  Held predominantly in September and October, several of this year’s locations are already open for registration. In addition to Rising Blue Star and Blue Star Combine All-Stars, top players from some of the Blue Star Travel Teams will also be invited to play.

“Our Blue Star Travel Teams circuit was revamped this past year and we’re coming off a great season that wrapped up with July’s Blue Star Championships in Washington, DC” said Flynn. “As we look to continue to grow the league, it will be great to feature some talented players in New Orleans representing their clubs and competing against the best.”

Adding to the star power,  select members of the first four classes of Blue Star 30 will be in attendance. Each year, the Blue Star 30 committee selects some of the world’s top middle school players to participate in the highly regarded Blue Star 30 Elite Camp. This past summer saw the first Blue Star 30 Europe class who attended the inaugural camp on the Spanish coastline of Gran Canaria. Here at home, the 4thedition of the American Blue Star 30 Camp took the floor in Wilmington, Delaware this past June at the beautiful 76ers Fieldhouse.

On top of the All-Star games scheduled in New Orleans, featured speakers and some surprise guests will be in attendance joining the Blue Star Media team as well as many of the country’s top evaluators. Video, social media, online, and print coverage will be available start to finish. Nationally known club and high school coaches will be directing the All-Star Teams in their games, all of which will be streamed online.

“Here at Blue Star, we value putting girls’ basketball on a big stage where it belongs,” said Flynn. “We want this to be a special memory for these young players, not only playing in the games, but meeting new people and hearing great guest speakers. I’m already looking forward to April, Blue Star Saturday is going to be a ton of fun.”
