CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Halloween has past, the calendar page has turned and the formal tip off of the 2019 – 20 scholastic basketball season is just around the corner. High school teams across the country are already finding out if the work they’ve done since last March has put them in a position for the season they’ve been hoping for…or if it’s going to be one long road through the winter.
We’re always up for an early peek at some of the teams hoping to make some noise and the Providence Day School Super Scrimmage in Charlotte is always a top flight preview of coming attractions in the Tar Heel State. Add in a very worthwhile Friday night stop just north in Mooresville for an elite middle school showcase compliments of Peter London (Carolina Girls Hoops Report) and Joe Fenelon (New York Girls Hoops Report) and North Carolina is absolutely the place to be in early November.
In all, 28 teams were on hand Saturday for the 12th annual Super Scrimmage while 77 athletes took part in the second addition of Friday Night Lights at the Talbert Recreation Center. While both the season and some of the standouts are young, we still saw some standouts and they’re below combined and in alphabetical order. Because of the younger ages of the Friday Night Lights participants we’re omitting their ever changing heights and yet to be determined schools at this point. They’re shown with their class, current position and home town as provided in the rosters.
