WASHINGTON, D.C. – Like many of the holiday tournaments the Title IX Classic offers up a lot more talent than we could possibly cover in just one article.  This time around we take a look at some of the evolving, young talent who made their way to the D.C. Armory showing off the possibilities that will keep us watching for many years to come.

Patricia Anumgba – 2020 – 5-6 – Point Guard/Guard – Paint Branch – Continues to be a play maker…Scores herself and sets up others…Pull up jumper has found more consistency…Physical on defense at times 

Kiandra Browne – 2021 – 6-1 – Forward – E.S. St.-Laurent – Combination of strength and mobility…Active in the screen and roll game…Also understands slipping screens to get opportunities…Seals well…Sits and makes herself a big target…Has the physical traits and skills to go along

Victoria Eniafe – 2021 – 6-0 – Forward – Bullis School – Athletic young forward…Shows a lot of promise…Motor is always running…Always seems to be on the move…Lots of offensive boards and put backs 

Imani Harris – 2021 – 5-5 – Point Guard – Monsignor Scanlan – The “other” young guard on this team you should know…Small but plenty of flash…Sees the floor…Navigates tight spaces….Had some moments 

Lillian Harris – 2020 – 5-11 – Forward – St. John’s Catholic Prep – Has added to her face up game…Improved ball handling…Has found a home at the #4 spot…Hitting 15 footer off catch or bounce…Evident she puts in the time 

Synia Johnson – 2020 – 5-8 – Point Guard – North Point – Point guard with some length…Straight line speed with the ball…Gets to the basket and can use either hand…Needs to improve as a jump shooter and finisher to take the next step…Should have continued, solid sophomore campaign

Helena Lasic – 2021 – 6-3 – Post – The Rise Center – Young post…Brings mobility to the table…Will get on the floor for loose balls…Skills are coming…Worth seeing again early in club season 

Angelina Mbengo – 2023 – 5-8 – Guard – E.S. St.-Laurent – Future is bright…Bigger guard…Strong for her age…Gets to rim at will on occasion…Ability and knowledge of how to split second level defenders and finish…Subsequently finds way to the line often…Problem for defenders

Madison McDaniel – 2024 – 5-1 – Point Guard – National Christian Academy – Started to grow and fill out since the summer season…Looks very good getting to the basket…Strong in transition…Speedy with the ball…Active hands on defense…Pull up game has expanded 

Kayla Morris – 2020 – 6-2 – Forward/Post – Monsignor Scanlan – Mobile, bouncy and long…Shot alteration necessary….Face up game with the handles to drive…Advancing to new levels 

Charia Roberts – 2020 – 5-10 – Forward – Pikesville – Athletic face up #4 player…Impressed with her energy…Handles the ball in transition…Goes to work in the paint…Nice finishing over the shoulder…Blocks some shots 

Yonta Vaughn – 2022 – 5-4 – Point Guard/Guard – National Christian Academy – Strong for an 8th grader…Very good with the ball…Gets the outlet and takes off in a hurry…Looks ready for the high school level

Chloe Wilson – 2020 – 6-0 – Forward – South Shore – Active forward…Strong build…Runs floor…Vocal…More of a role player right now but in the right setting for development

Travis Ponton first joined the Blue Star family in 2016, and brings with him a decade of women's basketball coaching experience across multiple levels. A 2018 WBCA Thirty Under 30 Award recipient, his most recent stint was on the bench as an Assistant Coach at LIU Brooklyn. He's also served on the staff at Loyola University, Charleston Southern, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Mount St. Mary's. As a successful high school coach for four years in Virginia, Ponton had a hand in helping over 30 athletes take their game to the college level. With a degree in Journalism from Radford University, he has also previously worked with WTVR/CBS 6 Television in Richmond. Ponton still calls central Virginia home.
