PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas– The College Football Playoff Committee kept Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU as its top four teams this week.
But the situation is fluid.
Unbeatens Ohio State and Michigan (11-0) Texas in the Big 12 title game to finish unbeaten and lock up a spot, opening the dloor for LSU and USC to climb into the mix if they continue to win and the Horned Frogs lose a game.
TCU has been questioned all season because the Frogs have been involved in so many second half comebacks. “We go through the same thing every week,” said Bowl Selection chairman Boo Corrigan. “TCU has done a really good job in finding ways to win games.”
The fifth and sixth ranked teams are LSU and USC.
LSU 9-2 but it has a win over Alabama and plays in the mighty SEC, which was enough to keep the Tigers ahead of USC for the time being. Tjhe Tigers have a game at Texas A & M,Saturday, then play which rallied to defeat Baylor on a last second field goal,-pllay top ranked Georgia 911-0) in the SEC title game at Atlanta.
The Trojans are 10-1, with a one point loss to Utah on the road. They are coming off a dramatic victory over cross town rival UCLA in the Rose Bowl. but they have dangerous Notre Down at home Saturday, then a Pac-12 title game, most likely against Oregon in neutral Las Vegas. but Washington or Utah could slip in if Oregon loses to Oregon State Saturday.,
Notre Dame, which is ranked 15th this week, has become an x factor in tje ranking. Tjhe Irish (8-3) already affected 10-1 Clemson’s chances when they beat up the Tigers, 35-14, at South Bend. And theycould play their way into a New Year’s day six bowl with a win over USC.
