FIBA Investigating Australia’s play during loss to Angola

BARCELONA– FIBA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Australia following the manner in which the team lost its last group D World cup game against Angola, 91-83, in Gran Canaria last Thursday, according to a report by AIPs.

According to FIBA, the on-court behaviour displayed by Australia in that game generated huge disappointment by basketball fans and experts. It is widely suspected that Australia lost that game in order to avoid having to face the reigning world champions USA until the Semi-Finals.

Basketball Australia has an opportunity to state its case before FIBA decides whether and to what extet disciplinary actons shall be imposed. We

‘   We’ve seen this before in international basketball with teams choose not to play key players or refusing to foul at the end of games to protect point differenetial. But this is a moe serious charge and if true, FIBA wants to make it perfectly clar that tanking games puts the integriyt fo the sport in question.
