BENSALEM, Pa. – The playoffs are upon us and in some cases there’s still time to build a case for the postseason. With essentially a week left in the regular season, the Blue Star Media Elite 25 rankings reflect eight high school football teams are in or headed to the playoffs this weekend.

Power states such as California, Texas, Florida and Georgia will start on the weekend of November 13. This week two schools enter the Elite 25 rankings: No. 23 Atlantic (Delray Beach, Fla.) and No. 25 Woodland Hills (Pittsburgh).

In south Florida, Atlantic is the top-ranked Class 8A team but won’t ease into the playoffs. That’s because Friday’s game with Dwyer (Palm Beach Gardens) in essence is a contest with a playoff feel and ramifications. Meanwhile in western Pennsylvania it’s the start of four grueling weeks of the WPIAL playoffs. It takes six games to produce a state title in Pennsylvania but most feel a WPIAL championship ranks as one of the toughest tasks in high school football. The Wolverines are Pennsylvania’s No. 1-ranked Class AAAA club and won’t have a smooth road to the final in Hershey next month.

The next Blue Star Media Elite 25 rankings will appear November 10. Until then please support your local high schools in the playoffs and perhaps we’ll see you at a game soon. – Christopher Lawlor
