BENSALEM, Pa. – Quiet is the operative word for the Blue Star Media Elite 25 high school football rankings.

There were no new additions but some shuffling did occur among the ranks. No. 25 JSerra (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) remains in the rankings despite a 42-7 loss to No. 3 Mater Dei (Santa Ana). That’s two losses for the Lions but both were to teams that were in the top-3. It cost the Lions two spots in the Elite 25 so the next loss will cost them. There’s a strong chance JSerra sees either Trinity League brother in the CIF-Southern Section playoffs that get underway in November.

The game of the week is clearly in south Florida when No. 4 Carol City (Miami Gardens) plays No. 14 Central (Miami) on Friday. This one has implications on playoffs.

So the state playoffs are heating up. Expect the Elite 25 mixing bowl to start churning. It’s one-and-done time again. Win you advance. Lose it’s time to start planning for 2019.

That leads us to Alaska, where the football season is over. Last Friday, East (Anchorage) defeated West (Anchorage), 35-6, to win a second Division I state title in the last three years. The Thunderbirds (10-1) went 10-0 versus in-state competition, allowing nine points per game. The lone loss to an Arizona school on road.

The previous weekend Soldotna won Division II and Ben Eielson AFB took Division III championships. Congratulations to all three programs!

There are four regional teams from Nevada, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania that could slide into the Elite 25 rankings when slots open. That’s guaranteed. Plus, who’s the great unknown out there who makes that magical postseason run? We’ll keep you abreast of it all.

The Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings will return on October 30.

There are plenty of games in your area, so get out and support your local teams. There are at least two weeks left in the regular season before everyone is in the postseason. Be the difference this weekend.

Hope to see you at a game soon. – Christopher Lawlor
