WEST PALM, Fla — The Sunshine State is always a hot bed for talented athletes and high girls from across the country added to the talent pool to put their games on full display at the Team Showdown and the Show-N-Prove hosted by the Miami Suns and Essence Girls Basketball respectively. Here are several young ladies that caught our attention.
It’s always fun to watch a shooter knock down shots from long range Florida native 2016 5-10 guard Taylor Wagner has a sweet stroke from behind the arc. Wagner is feisty and crafty and finds a way to get her shot off. She stroked multiple treys. Wagner finished well off the break; attacked the rim; and either finished or dropped dimes to her teammates. Wagner also displayed a nice mid-range touch. Defensively, she played aggressive on-ball defense. Wagner needs to add strength to her slender build and with continued development has a chance to be a mid to high major prospect.
Quality athletic bigs always catch the eye of coaches and evaluators and Miami Suns – Team Larkins 2016 6-3 Tyana Williams, who hails from Miami, Florida, has the chance to be just what they are looking for. Williams has a long athletic frame, she rebounds the ball at highest point, runs the floor, and finishes well in the paint. Williams midrange shot is a work in progress but she does have a nice low post and face up game. Williams is a solid DI prospect with a tremendous upside.
Big guards are always in demand and a joy to watch 5-10 2016 guard Jacaira Allen, a native of Coconut Creek, Florida, kept my attention she is very athletic and does a great job attacking with excellent command of her dribble creating off the bounce. Allen finishes at the rim. She has a nice midrange jumper to go along with a effective 3pt stroke. Allen does an excellent job communicating with her teammates as well a solid on ball defender. She lets the game come to her and finds a way to help her team. Definitely worth watching.
It’s always good to watch good guard play and 5-5 2016 point guard Destiny Frazier from Coconut Creek, Florida caught my attention she is very athletic and does a great job attacking to go along with a nice touch from behind the arc. Frazier finishes at the rim. She has a nice midrange jumper to go along with great court vision. Frazier does an excellent job involving her teammates as well as being a solid on ball defender that also loves to jump passing lanes.
Versatile bigs are always in demand and 2016 6-3 Forward Jasmine Walker from Montgomery, AL will be just that in demand. Walker is an athletic big with a college body. She has the ability to play on the perimeter at both ends of the court. Walker shoots the ball extremely well out to 20 feet. She has all the moves on the low block and a nice face game to boot. Walker had a great showing at the Show-N-Prove catching the eye of several BCS schools proving why she should be considered among the best in the country. MUST SEE!
Florida Lightning guard 5-8 2019 guard Khoi Love is very athletic and does a great job attacking the paint and finishing at the rim. She has a nice midrange jumper to go along with a sweet 3pt stroke and does an excellent job involving her teammates as well as being a solid on ball defender. Love a good ball handler must add strength to her long frame and continue to develop her overall game. Definitely worth watching.
Kyla Allison, the 2016 5-10 point guard native Floridian, is an athletic guard with good handles as well as a good passer with good court vision. She rebounds her position and Allison pushes the ball and finishes well off the break. Allison showed that she can be a very effective shooting guard by knocking down multiple 3s which included a devastating between the legs step back 3 pointer. She has a good basketball IQ and she communicates well with teammates. Allison is a solid on ball defender with long arms that she uses to create havoc for opposing guards. She must add strength to her long wiry frame. Allison is potentially a mid to high major prospect.
Ja’Tavia Tapley, the 6-2 Floridian wing,is long athletic and very active at both ends of the floor. Tapley runs the floor extremely. She handles the ball well for her length and size. Tapley plays tough hard-nosed defense on the post and she makes her opponent scrap and earn every point. Tapley has a nice low post game on the offensive end and a nice midrange game along with ability to hit the three ball. She also likes to face up and put the ball on the floor to attack the rim where she finishes well with contact. Tapley, the rising sophomore, will garner attention from multiple BCS programs.
