CHICAGO – The GEICO High School Nationals has been put on hold indefinitely it was announced Thursday afternoon. That according to Paragon Marketing, which produces the annual boys’ and girls’ basketball extravaganza.

The event was moved from New York to Roebuck, South Carolina earlier this week but now the likelihood of the event that features eight boys’ teams and four girls appears to silenced for the 2019-20 school year.

“As the situation with Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) continues to evolve, GEICO Nationals will be postponed indefinitely to ensure the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches and spectators,” said Rashid Ghazi, the executive director of GEICO Nationals in a prepared statement.

All 12 teams thought to be in the GEICO Nationals are in the Blue Star Media Elite 25 boys’ and girls’ rankings, including No. 1 Montverde (Fla.) Academy boys and No. 2 Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (Chattanooga, Tenn.) girls. The brackets were not released.

There is no timetable for a tournaments that could be played later this spring but when the NCAA canceled all championships, including men’s and women’s March Madness, on Thursday and for the remainder of the spring, it might be difficult to reschedule.

It was announced today the Jordan Brand Game, a senior all-star game, scheduled for March 27 in Chicago has been canceled. Late this afternoon McDonald’s All-American Game was also canceled. It was supposed to be played April 1 in Houston.
