Potential NBA first draft pick overall James Wiseman, who dropped out of Memphis last week, has signed with Excel Sports to represent him in his professional negotiations
The decision has brought an abrupt end to his short -lived college career.
The 7-1 center played just three games for the Tigers before the NCAA suspended him 12 games after determining his family accepted $11,500 in moving expenses from then Memphis East and travel team coach Penny Hardaway to help the family move from Nashville before 11th grade so Wiseman could play for East’s national prep power. The move occurred before Hardaway took the Memphis job in 2018 but the former NBA star and iconic favorite son had been labeled a booster at the school after he donated $1 million to help build an athletic Hall of Fame in his name in 2007.
The NCAA also fined McDonald’s All American and USA Basketball star $11,500 and tried to make him donate the money to his favorite charity.
Wiseman averaged 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in his brief career at Memphis.
Excel Sports represents a number of major players in the NBA, including Denver Nuggets’ star Nikola Jokic, Boston Celtics guard Kemba Walker and Cleveland veteran forward Kevin Love.
