Kneepkins pours in 20 points to lead USA over Mexico, 104-48, at FIBA Women’s AmeriCup; quarterfinals are Friday in Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile – The Americans are off to the quarterfinal round of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.

USA wore down Mexico to cruise to a 104-48 win, moving to 4-0 and winning Group B. The Mexicans turned the ball over over 28 times on the defensive end for 40 points. Offensively, the Americans dominated inside with 58 points in the paint, while assisting on 30 of their 41 made field goals.

Gianna Kneepkins led the USA in scoring for a second straight game, scoring 15 second-half points of her 20. Olivia Miles set a USA record for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup with 10 assists, while tying Raegan Beers and Grace VanSlooten for the team-high with 6 rebounds.

“I told the team, I’m really proud of their focus and their effort in all four pool play games,” USA head coach Kara Lawson said. “We’re very excited to finish the pool number one, finish the group as the number one seed going into the medal round.”

Up next is the quarterfinals on Friday, July 4 against an opponent and a times to be determined.

The USA set the tone early, starting the game on a 10-2 run. The Americans’ defense forced 8 turnovers from Mexico in the first quarter, and they cashed in for 12 points in transition. The USA attack was diverse–seven different players scored on the way to a 21-10 USA lead at the quarter break.

“I think it was a team effort today,” Kneepkins said. “I think we’re hard to guard as a team because there’s a lot of options.”

Leading 26-16 in the middle of the second quarter, the U.S. went on a 14-2 run, turning the game into a 22-point blowout. The work was done down low for the United States — scoring 28 first half points in the paint and grabbing 7 offensive rebounds for 8 second chance points. The USA carried a secure 43-24 heading into the third quarter.
