WAUKEGAN, Ill.—You don’t last over 35 years as one of the preeminent figures on the women’s basketball landscape without being a visionary and an innovator.  Even with the extensive US Junior National and Blue Star event schedule already recognized as the gold standard in club basketball Mike Flynn continues to raise the bar conducting the first annual “Blue Star 30” in Waukegan this weekend.  The elite, invitation only event features select players from 15 different states as well as 5 different foreign countries in the 2020 through 2022 classes.

Led on the court by highly regarded Hall of Fame coach Dr. Anthony Pappas and a staff that lays claim to over 150 years of head coaching experience, the emphasis remains on “Growing the Game”.  However, this time around the focus is rightfully centered on the floor and the advancement of the basketball itself.

“The goal is to change the game and prepare the best for what’s next” Flynn responded when asked the intent in creating Blue Star 30.

“This is a basketball and social experience that has brought players together from all over the world.”

“The boys get everything; this is the first time that the young female players are having their day.”

When asked the biggest takeaway he hopes participants will take home with them he replied, “Recognizing that they’re a special group of players representing an elite global club of young women.”
