The Next Generation Shines at Boo Williams Girls Nike Invitational

HAMPTON, Va. – The Boo Williams Girls Nike Invitational is one of the most anticipated events of the club basketball season. With over 240 teams, college coaches from every DI program had an opportunity to watch some of the best talent in the country. While established upperclassmen playing in the Nike EYBL were the focal point for many scouts and fans, the next generation of college prospects took the opportunity to show off their talents.  This year’s crop of youngsters, many making their club circuit debuts, hit the court like seasoned veterans.  In EYBL competition several members of the 2018 class shined on the big stage,  Honesty Grayson emerged as one of the leading scorers averaging 17.5 points for the New Jersey Sparks.  Team Takeover’s Amira Collins and Charlie Collier from DFW logged major minutes and performed at a high level highlighting why they are considered the top interior players in the class.

Here is a quick look at some of the standout performers from the younger age groups:

Erin Howard – 6-1 – 2018  – WI – (Flight Elite 15U) – Can play either guard position…solid ball handling skills against pressure…uses size to attack the middle of the defense…legitimate 3-point scoring threat

Elizabeth Martino  – 5-10 – 2020 – (Team Takeover 14U) – Bouncy explosive athlete with scorers mentality… can dominate offensively …explosive and creative off the dribble…can get her shot off in traffic…has range from beyond the arc…quick on ball defender…special talent

Jasmine Gholson – 5-9 – 2018 – (Team Takeover 14U) –  Solid fundamentals…can play 2/3…can finish at the rim…strong mid-range shooter…makes good decisions…very efficient…excellent off the ball defender

Lauren Park-Lane – 5-0 – 2019 – (Philadelphia Belles Woodall 13U) – Extremely high basketball IQ…has the all the intangibles needed to be a point guard…looks to keep teammates involved…despite size isn’t afraid to attack the basket…great hesitation and stutter step

Olivia Summel  – 6-2 – 2019 – (NE Crusaders 15U EYBL) – College physique probably still growing…active communicator when setting screens…plays well without the ball…knows how to show and seal…can face up and score from 15-17 feet

Daijah Smith – 5-10 – 2018 – (MW Elite U15 Yates) – Great combination of natural ability and basketball fundamentals…long rangy build…ultra-quick first step…can create her own shot with ease…solid pull-up jumper

Rickea Jackson – 6-1 – 2019 – (MI Crossover 13U) – Explosive leaper who can make plays at the rim…gets up to meet the ball on the board…long wiry build with sprinter speed

Taylor Geiman – 2019 -6-0 – (MD Belles 2019) – Lots of tools…can handle the ball with ease…match problem on the perimeter because of her size…confident shooter with range

Aleah Nelson – 2019 – 5-6 -(MD Belles 2019) – Explosive quickness…can break down defenders with crossover moves…knows how to use the euro-step

Asianae Johnson – 5-8 – 2018 (Gauchos 14U) – Tough combo guard with quick hands and feet…gets after it on defense…thrives in transitions because of her ability to get steals and start the fast break

Grace Stone – 5-10 – 2018 – (Exodus 15U Nike/EP Elite) – Big guard…smooth moves…plays with head up, great court vision…can deliver that ball in tight spaces…very high IQ

Kennedi  Shorts – 6-0 – 2018 – (Cal Sparks Blue) – Long fluid athlete…college wing build…quick and bouncy…effortless smooth shooter with 3 point range

Andrea Aquino  – 6-9 -2018 – (NJ Sparks) – Runs and moves well…nice touch around the basket…huge upside

Infinity Hammonds  – 5-2 2018 – (BWSL 15U) – Small, quick ball handler…lefty with an arsenal of offensive moves…step back jumper…in-your-face defender

McKenna Warnock – 2019 – 5-11 – (WI-Flight Elite 15U) – Good ball handler but moves are a little mechanical…can pass off the dribble…deceptive speed with the ball…playmaker

Brooke Olson -6-1 – 2018 – (WI-Flight Elite 15U) – College 3/4 build…always active and involve on both sides of the ball…can grab rebounds and push the ball in transition…creates match-up problems with her ability to score from low post or 10-12 feet facing the basket

Alexis Whittington – 5-11 – 2018 – (TN Flight Sophomores) –Blue collar player with a nose for the ball…physical and aggressive…can score from the perimeter

Azzi Fudd – 5-10 -2021 – (Team Takeover 14U) – Extremely mature player…able to excel against older players…outstanding fundamentals and natural overall feel for the game…outstanding midrange shooter…has set the bar high for her class

Malu Tshtenge  – 6-2 -2019 -(Team Takeover 14U) – Dominate defender and shot blocker…reminds you of a young Elizabeth Williams…good hands can finish layups in traffic…tremendous upside

Kiyana Jefferson -5-11-  2019 – (Philadelphia Belles Woodall 13U) – Creative scoring threat…athletic build…ton of potential

Brea Beal – 6-0 – 2019 – (MW Elite U15 Yates) – Gritty blue collar post player..relentless on the boards…doesn’t shy away from contact

Jamine Powell – 5-5 – 2019 – (MI Crossover 13U) – Fiesty confident PG…creative and vocal…has stop-and-pop pull-up

Kayla Cooper – 5-11 – 2020 (MD Belles 2019) – Physically mature…solid finisher…keep watching

Adrianne Davis – 6-1 – 2019 (MD Belles 2019) – College frame…very strong, physical force down low with ability to dominant on the boards…great hands

Kaia Harrison – 5-3 – 2019 – (Gauchos 14U) – Scrappy little guard who can create her own shot…tight handle with quick moves…always in attack mode…uses floater well

Kadaja Bailey – 5-11- 2018 – (Exodus 15U Nike/EP Elite) – Raw athlete with hops…can finish at the rim

Alexis Tucker 6-0 – 2019 – (Cal Sparks Blue) – Very strong for her age…finish through contact…live body in the paint

Semaj Williams 6-5 – 2018 – (Cal Sparks Blue) – Legitimate size…still raw but showed some basic moves down low…runs the floor well

Naomi Shorts – 5-7 – 2019 – (Philadelphia Belles Woodall 13U) – Ultra smooth athletic guard…anticipates well on defenses…attacks the passing lanes…keep watching

Lisa Bodine is a national evaluator for Blue Star Media. A native of Queens, N.Y., she began her coaching career in 1993 with the NY Gazelles and has coached with D.C.-based Team Unique, as well as several high school programs. During her 30 years as a club and high school coach "The Godmother" has mentored many of the top players in the Mid-Atlantic region. Bodine runs The Godmother Sports Foundation which assists young athletes in need.
