Not everybody gets the opportunity to wear a USA Basketball uniform.  Every set of trials leaves some talented and promising athletes on the outside looking in when the final roster is posted.  The recent U16 trials had enough talent to field two competitive teams in the upcoming FIBA Americas Championship for Women with a good chance of the two meeting each other in the gold medal game.  While the 12 “chosen” earned their spots and will no doubt represent the United States in a proud and successful manner, the following podcast offers a few insights on those who competed well but came up short in their effort to make the squad.

Mark Lewis is a national evaluator and photographer for Blue Star Basketball as well as the lead columnist for Blue Star Media. Twice ranked as one of the top 25 Division I assistant coaches in the game by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), he logged 25 years of college coaching experience at Memphis State, Cincinnati, Arizona State, Western Kentucky and Washington State. Lewis serves as a member of the prestigious McDonald’s All-American selection committee as well as the Naismith College Player and Coach of the Year committees.
