COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—They started with 124 athletes last Thursday and following 10 sessions of skill, breakdown and scrimmage work finished with these 12 new individuals putting on USA Basketball uniforms for the first time. In the end the roster chosen to represent the United States in the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship for Women had a diverse breakdown of talent and demographics. Of the 12 roster members two were open applicants (Taylor Murray and Sabrina Ionescu) who paid their way to the trials and earned their spots while the remaining 10 were part of the original 33 “invited” trial participants. Half of those making the trip to Cancun, Mexico next month are members of the 2015 graduating class with the remaining six are scheduled to wear a cap and gown in 2016. Three states (California, Maryland and Texas) can claim two representatives each while six other states each have just one to call their own. Five players are listed above the 6-2 mark, four more top 5-10 with the remaining three checking in at 5-5, 5-6 and 5-9.
