BENSALEM, Pa. – It was a relatively quiet week in the Blue Star Media Elite 25 girls’ basketball rankings. There was only on addition coming from the Deep South.

Entering the Elite 25 rankings is No. 18 Wenonah (Birmingham, Ala.), which is Alabama’s top-ranked team. The Dragons have a busy week with four games, including two in Dr. Martin Luther King weekend events in Alabama.

Speaking of the MLK weekend, there are oodles of event and games honoring the memory of a great American. Here are three that could impact the next round of Elite 25 rankings.

Blue Star High School Invitational: Five games will be played Sunday at Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia. The games are Germantown Academy (Fort Washington, Pa.)-Upper Dublin (Fort Washington), 11 a.m.; Neumann-Goretti (Philadelphia)-Ursuline Academy (Wilmington, Del.), 12:40 p.m.; Rutgers Prep (Somerset, N.J.)-Christ the King (Middle Village, N.Y.), 2 p.m.; Agnes Irwin-Seton Keough (Baltimore), 3:40 p.m.; and Bishop Shanahan (Downingtown, Pa.)-Paul VI (Haddonfield, N.J.), 5 p.m.

MLK Showcase: This 17-game event covers Saturday and Monday at St. Mary’s in Stockton, Calf. Teams from three states, mostly from California, comprise the extravaganza at Morelli Gymnasium. Saturday’s top games are St. Mary’s (Stockton)-Bishop Alemany (Mission Hills), 2:30 p.m. PT; La Jolla Country Day-Salesian (Richmond), 4 p.m.; Mater Dei (Santa Ana)-Miramonte (Orinda), 5:30 p.m.; Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas)-McClatchy (Sacramento), 8:30 p.m. Monday’s games: Salesian-Bishop Gorman, 10 a.m.; Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland)-Pinewood School (Los Altos Hills), 1 p.m.

Classic in the Country Challenge: One of the coolest events of the year is held at Berlin Hiland High School in Ohio. There are 20 games spread out over three days starting on Saturday afternoon. For a complete listing of games go to http://classicinthecountry.org/schedule/

Blue Star Media Elite 25 High School Girls’ Basketball rankings, Jan. 13, 2016

1. St. Mary’s Stockton, Calif. (15-0)

Previous rank: 1.

Low-down: The Rams escaped with two instate victories. First, they edged Clovis West (Fresno), 70-60, as sophomores Aquira DeCosta and Ariel Johnson combined for 37 points and 16 boards. Then they stopped Salesian (Richmond), 83-78, in overtime. DeCosta put up 22 points and 25 rebounds. This weekend it’s the St. Mary’s MLK Showcase with games against Alemany (Mission Hills) and Palisades (Pacific Palisades).

2Duncanville, Texas (25-0)

Previous: 3.

Low-down: Louisville-bound C Ciera Johnson bucketed 22 points as the Pantherettes cruised past Cedar Hills, 70-48.

3. Neumann-Goretti, Philadelphia (11-0)

Previous: 4.

Low-down: Coach Andrea Peterson’s squad thrashed Shipley School (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), 71-24, and Bonner-Prendergast (Drexel Hill), 74-36. Game with Conwell-Egan (Fairless Hills) was postponed.

4. Riverdale Baptist School, Upper Marlboro, Md. (19-1)

Previous: 5.

Low-down: Three double-digit wins for the Lady Crusaders. Maryland-bound Kaila Charles scored 50 points in the victories.

5. Centennial, Las Vegas (16-1)

Previous: 6.

Low-down: The Bulldogs drained 12 3-pointers during an 89-49 victory over Spring Valley (Las Vegas). Bailey Thomas, a West Virginia recruit, dropped in 25 points with seven 3-pointers.

6. Paul VI, Fairfax, Va. (15-1)

Previous: 2.

Low-down: Lost to then-No. 25 Good Counsel (Olney, Md.), 73-71. Pittsburgh-bound Jasmine Whitney scored 19 points. It’s just another crazy night in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference, with the next donnybrook on Jan. 19 against St. John’s College (Washington, D.C.).

7. Montini Catholic, Lombard, Ill. (19-0)

Previous: 7.

Low-down: The Lady Broncos defeated Davenport (Iowa) North, 69-43, at the Chicagoland Invitational Showcase to highlight a three-game week.

8. Olive Branch, Miss. (18-0)

Previous: 8.

Low-down: The Lady Quistors tuned up for Friday’s showdown with Horn Lake with two wins, including a tight 62-56 decision over Southaven. Myah Taylor scored 27 points in that win.

9. Homestead, Fort Wayne, Ind. (16-0)

Previous: 9.

Low-down: The Spartans survived a slowdown game to hold off Carmel, 34-30. Next up was a road to Notre Dame Academy (Toledo, Ohio) on Tuesday night and two games in the Chicagoland Classic this weekend against powerhouse programs Benet Academy (Lisle, Ill.) and Morgan Park (Chicago).

10. National Christian Academy, Fort Washington, Md. (17-0)

Previous: 10.

Low-down: Two more lopsided victories point the Eagles into a run of three games over the Martin Luther King weekend.

11. North Shore, Galena Park, Texas (23-1)

Previous: 11.

Low-down: The Mustangs won their district opener, crushing Channelview, 78-43.

12. Mansfield (Texas) Timberview (22-0)

Previous: 12.

Low-down: Red Oak and Ennis, a couple of district competitors, weren’t a match for the Wolves.

13. Miramonte, Orinda, Calif. (12-0)

Previous: 13.

Low-down: The Matadors won by 55 and 45 points but won’t have that easy with No. 15 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) this weekend at the St. Mary’s MLK Showcase on Saturday in Stockton.

14. Cicero (N.Y.)-North Syracuse (11-0)

Previous: 13.

Low-down: The North Stars returned home from a successful West Coast tournament appearance to bury two opponents by 43 and 53 points. Beth Bonin averaged 15 points in two wins.

15. Mater Dei, Santa Ana, Calif. (17-1)

Previous: 15.

Low-down: The Monarchs allowed 42 points in a pair of opening week Trinity League contests.

16. Providence Day School, Charlotte, N.C. (12-1)

Previous: 16.

Low-down: Carolina Day School (Asheville), 45-25. F Erin Whalen hit for 20 points. The Chargers also dominated an exhibition game with an Australian team.

17. Chaminade, West Hills, Calif. (15-2)

Previous: 17.

Low-down: The Eagles outlasted Oaks Christian (Westlake Village), 68-63. A busy week ahead sees four games in seven days.

18. Wenonah, Birmingham, Ala. (19-0)

Previous: Not ranked.

Low-down: Lexus Dye fired 31 points and the Dragons remained perfect in a 66-63 triple-overtime win over Hoover. Kaitlyn Rodgers and Faith Reynolds popped in 11 apiece and Kourtnie Smith had 10.

19. Good Counsel, Olney, Md. (12-2)

Previous: 25.

Low-down: Upended then-No. 2 Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.), 73-71, as Linsey Pulliam tossed in 9 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter. Freshman Chloe Chapman had a breakout game with 15 points and dictated the pace from the point.

20. Konawaena, Kealakekua, Hawaii (15-1)

Previous: 18.

Low-down: It’s a countdown for another state title for the Wildcats, who play four games this week.

21. Canyon, Texas (19-1)

Previous: 19.

Low-down: After a rare in-season hiccup, Coach Joe Lombard’s Eagles returned to west Texas for two easy district victories.

22. St. Francis, Alpharetta, Ga. (16-1)

Previous: 20.

Low-down: Coach Aisha Kennedy’s squad peeled off two lopsided region wins. Four games this week is highlighted by a matchup with Holy Innocents’ Episcopal (Atlanta) on Saturday.

23. Bellevue, Wash. (12-0)

Previous: 21.

Low-down: After a nearly two-week layoff, the Wolverines returned to form with two cakewalk King Co 3A/2A Division wins. Wednesday’s key game with Mercer Island is for first place.

24. Bishop Gorman, Las Vegas (15-1)

Previous: 21.

Low-down: The Gaels play two games at the St. Mary’s MLK Showcase in Stockton, Calif.

25. Archbishop Mitty, San Jose, Calif. (10-3)

Previous: 23.

Low-down: Following two easy West Valley League victories, the Monarchs have a light week with one game with St. Francis (Mountain View).

Dropped: No. 24 Christ the King, Middle Village, N.Y.
