Texas Christian is no longer on the outside looking in at the college football playoffs.
The Horned Frogs are 10-0 and have clinched a spot in the Big 12 title game following a 17-10 victory over Texas in Austin. If they win out, they seem like a lock for a spot in the national semi-finals
I’m sure that upsets a number of other Power 5 conferences, which tried to brand TCU as this year’s Cincinnati. They even arrived in Austin as a 7.5 point underdog to a team with three losses. But TCU found a way to pound out another close victory, leaving coach Sonny Dykes to embrace that underdog role.
“I didn;t relaly know until about Wednesday,” he said. “We dont want to be given things. That’s the one thing we’ve talkiing about. Let’s earn this.”
Dykes continues to remind his team it was picked seventh in the Big 12 pre-season poll.
“Nobody had any expectations for this football team at all other than ourselves,” he said. “We understand that’s the way it is. Our deal has been ‘Hey, bring it on. If we’ve got to win em all, fine, let’s try to win them all”
right now, it appears Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU have the inside track on the four spots with Tennesee fifth. But that could change Ohio State plays Michigan Nov. 26 in Columbus so one of those Big 10 teams will have a late loss. Tennessee is 9-1 with its only loss to top-ranked Georgia. The Vols went for style points in yestereday’s 66-624 victory over Missouri, scoring a tacky, meaningless final touchdown in the final 36 seconds to punctuate a blowout and try to impress the selection committee with margin of victory..
