Top Team Performances From Day One
Bishop Ireton (Alexandria, Va.) – New head coach Jason Harris has breathed new life into the squad that hasn’t had a winning record in over a decade. The Cardinals had a resounding 63-43 victory over Forestville HS(Forestville, Md.), where they put on a Princeton offense clinic.
Eleanor Roosevelt (Greenbelt, Md.) – The defending 2014 Maryland 4A state champions ran the table last season but the DMV naysayers weren’t ready to give them total props because they only played public schools. Yesterday without their leading scorer Kaila Charles, they took on perennial powerhouse, Our Lady of Good Counsel(Olney, Md.). With clutch performances from sophomore guards Yemisi Odunlami, Octivia Wilson and Central Florida commit senior Tolulope Omokore, Roosevelt was able to secure a victory in overtime.
Whitney Young (Chicago, Ill.) – The girls from the Windy City came ready to play handing local favorite National Christian Academy a 9-point loss. Sharpshooting wing Isabelle Spingola was perfect from the field scoring 12 points and point guard Kiara Lewis was virtually unstoppable leading all scorers with 20.
Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.) – The star of The Mustangs is the team, in their 62-48 win over Nazareth(Brooklyn, N.Y.) only one player scored in double figures. The team has bought into veteran coach Frank Oliver ‘s system and are playing great team ball. Currently they are undefeated and on the verge of a special season.
Potter’s House Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.) – What do you get when you have a crew of speedy guards and one of the top scholastic players in the country? A major problem for T.P.L.S. (Richmond, Va.) in their first round Headen Bracket match up. PHCA’s guards were relentless with their patented press and Rellah Boothe scored an easy 22 points without breaking a sweat.
