Longtime UConn women’s basketball associate head coach Chris Dailey received medical attention after collapsing at the conclusion of the national anthem before the fifth ranked Huskies’ defeated NC State, 81-69, in Hartford.
Dailey was helped onto a stretcher and taken off the floor, waving to the crowd as she was taken off.
After the game, Geno Aurriemma said that Dailey was good. “Northing seriouis, nothing threetening,” he said.
The school announced after the game that Dailey was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon. “When she was on the floor, everything runs through your mind,” Auriemma said. “i’m just glad we have really good people here. I know it shook up a lot of people in our program.”
UConn has been through some troubling times this season. Paige Bueckers, the 2021 national Player of the Year as a freshman, is out for the season with an ACL tear and freshman Ice Brady is done with a dislocated patella. Sophoore Caroline Ducharme has neck stiffness and fifth year senior Dorka Juhasz is out for at least three games with a broken thumb
Dailey has been part of auriemma’s staff since Aurriemma arrived in Storrs in 1985. She has also served as head coach in his absence, leading the Huskies to a perfect 13-0 record.
“We definitely played this game for CD,” said sophomore Nika Muhl, who set a program record with 15 assists as UConn (3-0) won its second consecutive game over a top 10 opponent. Sensational sophomore guard Azzi Fudd led the Huskies with 32 points.
