COLRADO SPRINGS, Colo.– The United States left no doubt which country had he best team in the FIBA U18 Americas men’s basketball touranment here at the U.S. Olympic Training Site after beating Canada., 113-79, here Tuesday night for the gold medal Tuesday night.
The Americans used a well-rounded offense in which five players scored in double digits. Forward Justise Winslow of St. John’s School, who will enroll at Duke this fall, had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the United States .Forward Stanley Johnson, an Arizona signee who is argably the best player ever to play for Gary McKnmight atMerter Dei High in Santa Ana, Calif, was voted MVP after contriubting 19 points and 5 assists in the final. Junior point guard Isaiah Briscoe of Roselle, NJ Catholic added 14 while 6-10 center Myles Turner from Trinity High in Bedford, Tex. blolcked four more shots, spring his tournament record total to 18
d place is Canada’s best showing at the tournament. Dillon Brooks, a rising senior at Findley Prep, led Canada with 27 points and was the tournament’s top scorer at 25.2 points per game.
Overall, the U.S. won its five games by an average of just under 57 points.
