USA Basketball Junior Men’s Team convene for mini-camp in Colorado Springs

Forty-eight of the nation’s top high school aged basketball players will gather in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for the 6th annual USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team mini-camp on Oct. 4-5.
The training camp will be used to continue player evaluations and to get a start on preparations for several upcoming international competitions, including in 2015 the Nike Hoop Summit, 2015 FIBA Americas U16 Championship, as well as for the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championship and 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship.

The mini-camp will be led by Don Showalter (Iowa City H.S./Iowa City, Iowa), who has directed USA teams to six gold medal finishes as head coach of the USA Basketball Developmental National Team since 2009. Under Showalter, USA teams have won three FIBA U17 World Championships (2010, 2012, and 2014), and three FIBA Americas U16 Championships (2009, 2011 and 2013).

Lawlor, an award-winning writer, is a voting committee member and advisor for several national high school events, including the McDonald’s All-American Games. He previously wrote for USA TODAY and ESPN.com, where he was the national preps writer, while compiling the national rankings in four sports.
