CHICAGO, Ill.– The April Evaluation period once again invaded the Greater Chicago area for the 2017 incarnation of the USJN Windy City Classic last weekend.
While the weather outside was actually quite frightful (coming from this Southerner), but the level of play was oh so delightful. More 350 teams, mainly from the Midwest but stretching from Pennsylvania to Colorado gathered to test their metal and Blue Star Media was all over Chicago Land searching for the the standouts.

Today we’re focusing on some of the underclassmen who stood out and appear to be well on their way to a great club season. As you will see there was an abundance of young players who brought their best to Chicago and anytime some of the best club programs in the Midwest are under the same roof, stars can emerge.
Janelle Allen – 2020 – 6-2 – Post – IL Elite 14 Black — Mobile, big post…Flashes hard and can then handle to drive once she gets it…Gets a good, wide base inside…Likes to play physical…Can be hard to handle inside…Has a little bounce in her step
Taylor Boruff – 2019 – 5-10 – Guard/Forward – Indiana Flight 17 — Lefty…Knocks down the three and the mid-range pull up…Likes the left hand drive…Built like a four player but maybe needs to grow a little more…Skilled player
Kiki Britzmann – 2019 – 6-0 – Forward – Blue Star St. Louis 17 — Blue collar worker on the court…Does some of everything…Can get the steal and take it on her own…Hard to guard inside and in the short corner…Can stretch it to the three point line…Beats forwards off the dribble…Smart enough to know when she has a mismatch…Will make defender pay for switching…Had a solid event
Alyssa Crockett – 2022 – 6-1 – Forward – Sky Digg Elite 13 — Showed off versatility…Has ability on the defensive side of the ball…Plays the top of a 1-3-1 half court zone and giving opposing guards issues…Has the ability and size to get to the basket on the drive…Can get to the line and knock them down
Neveah Dean – 2020 – 6-2 – Post – Sports City U — College ready build already…Does a nice job getting position inside…Mobile…Needs to get down into a stance and guard the drive a little bit…Skill set on the inside continues to grow
Gi Gi Eldredge – 2021 – 6-0 – Post – Sky Digg Elite 13 — Young post…Makes herself a big target at all levels of the post…Can go up and get the lob passes…Finishes inside…Plays hard…One to know
Kendall Folley – 2021 – 5-7 – Point Guard – Dayton Lady Hoopstars 14 Black — Already garnering attention with her play…Likes to freeze defenders with the hesitation…Flies around out there…Plays with energy…Quick on D and on the drive…Gets on the floor…Has the floater game going
Chelsea Gibson – 2019 – 6-1 – Guard/Forward – Team Indiana 17 — College ready build…Skill set to match at the wing forward spot…Smooth pull up jumper to go with three point range…Strong kid…Plays physical and patient…Can handle the ball out top…Will work inside some
Aubryanna Hall – 2021 – 6-0 – Guard/Forward – Team Championship Behavior 13 — Tall, long young wing…Handles it with some power behind her…Hits the three…Serious scoring threat in a lot of ways…Rips down rebounds and takes the ball herself…Defends the guard spot well
Sydney Hilliard – 2019 – 5-11 – Point Guard – Wisconsin Academy 16 — Decisive with the basketball…Pounds it and pushes it with some speed…High basketball IQ with size at point…Mid-range game is nice…Crashes the board…Jumpstop and step through on the finish…Loves the hesitation floater…Evolving status
Camille Jackson – 2022 – 5-9 – Guard – IL X-Citement 13 – Nationally established already…Showed off big time handles…Ability is there to get to the basket at will…Dynamic player…Great first step…Produced steals on D…Starting to think the game more and more
Peyton Kennedy – 2020 – 5-11 – Guard/Forward – IL Elite 14 Black – Well-built…Plays strong…Physical kid who handles downhill with some speed in the open court…Went coast to coast…Demonstrated a big time spin move as a go to…Can also work inside…Potential to be a dangerous player at the four spot moving forward
Maci Kuchta – 2020 – 5-2 – Point Guard – Missouri Phenom 15 Mid-MO — Big time shooter…Deep three range…Hits off the catch or the bounce…Nice floater over the help defenders…Drives to the basket with a purpose…Impressive game

Alexis Wagner – 2019 – 5-10 – Guard – Team Wisconsin Select 15 Black — Bigger guard…Played some point as well…Shoots the three…Has a pull up jumper at her disposal…Advances the ball in transition…Moves without the ball to score
Marisa Warren – 2019 – 5-8 – Point Guard – Blue Star St. Louis 17 — Very quick…Good with the ball…Lefty…Has a great flow and elevation on the pull up jumper…Driver who knows when to score…Can also can make the big time dump off
Shemera Williams – 2019 – 5-7 – Point Guard – Wisconsin Playground Elite 16 — Silky smooth player…Very tough and not afraid to mix up…Baller…Some burst on her first step to drive past the D….Hit multiple three’s from well beyond the arc…Lots of shake and sizzle to her handles…Doesn’t over dribble…Does a good job setting up her teammates and working through the offense…Plays with some attitude
Skye Williams – 2021 – 5-9 – Point Guard – Team Championship Behavior 13 — Tall, long young point…Will hit the boards from the perimeter…Good on ball defender…Gets out and makes plays in transition…Plays with poise consistently
Ivy Wolf – 2021 – 5-7 – Guard – Dayton Lady Hoopstars 14 Black — Off guard…Ability is there to knock down the three…Can get to the cup in transition…Showed good decision making in transition as to if/when to give it up…Good, smart passer…Plays hard
Brianna Wooldridge – 2022 – 6-1 – Post – IL Elite 14 Black — Post prospect…Wide frame…Light on her feet…Can drive from the high post or short corner…Handles the ball well for her size…No problem bringing the ball up the court herself…Lots of basketball ahead of her
Travis Ponton first joined the Blue Star family in 2016, and brings with him a decade of women's basketball coaching experience across multiple levels. A 2018 WBCA Thirty Under 30 Award recipient, his most recent stint was on the bench as an Assistant Coach at LIU Brooklyn. He's also served on the staff at Loyola University, Charleston Southern, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Mount St. Mary's. As a successful high school coach for four years in Virginia, Ponton had a hand in helping over 30 athletes take their game to the college level. With a degree in Journalism from Radford University, he has also previously worked with WTVR/CBS 6 Television in Richmond. Ponton still calls central Virginia home.
