BENSALEM, Pa. – It was a relatively quiet week in the Blue Star Media Elite 25 boys’ basketball rankings.
No. 25 East (Memphis, Tenn.) joins the Elite 25 after navigating rough waters in Memphis and especially District 8-AAA, where the Mustangs are unbeaten in 11 games. No. 21 DeSoto (Texas) tumbles 11 spots after a shocking district loss to unheralded South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie). No. 20 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) bumps up after an impressive showing at the Nike Extravaganza.
Regular seasons are wrapping up and the playoff push begins, most notably in Philadelphia and New York City along with Florida. Many follow in the next week, including Texas and California.

1. Oak Hill Academy, Mouth of Wilson, Va. (32-1)
Previous: rank 1.
Low-down: The Warriors recorded two hard earned wins last weekend at the Dr. Pepper TEN Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. Junior Lindell Wigginton had 24 points, burying four three-point field goals, in a 64-47 win over Hamilton Heights Christian (Chattanooga). He also threw in 22 points when the Warriors took down McCallie School (Chattanooga), 89-59. Just for good measure, the heavily recruited guard won both the 3-point shooting and slam-dunk contests at the event. Indeed a productive weekend.
2.Chino Hills, Calif. (25-0)
Previous: 2.
Low-down: Lonzo Ball, a UCLA recruit and candidate for national player of the year, cemented his lofty standing with a 27-point, 7-assist game during a 98-81 rout of Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) at the Nike Extravaganza in Santa Ana.
3. Montverde (Fla.) Academy (20-1)
Previous: 3.
Low-down: Idle. Coach Kevin Boyle’s team is off until Thursday when they play in the first of three games in New Jersey against elite teams.
4. Findlay Prep, Henderson, Nev. (23-1)
Previous: 4.
Low-down: The Pilots were at their best on defensive side last weekend, squeezing two Las Vegas opponents while limiting them to 38 and 30 points. The pace picks up this week with three of four games at home.
5. Atascocita, Humble, Texas (30-0)
Previous: 5.
Low-down: The Eagles clinched the district title for the third straight year.
6. St. Anthony, Jersey City, N.J. (18-0)
Previous: 6.
Low-down: The Friars scored 17 unanswered points in the first quarter to rout Camden, 56-35, in the New Jersey Scholastic Play by Play Classic in Jersey City. Next is a tricky matchup with Bergen Catholic (Oradell) on Thursday.
7. U of D Jesuit, Detroit (15-0)
Previous: 7.
Low-down: The Cubs dispatched Catholic League rivals Brother Rice (Beverly Hills, Mich.), 71-44, and Central Catholic (Novi), 67-32. It’s a light week with a road game at De La Salle (Warren) on Friday.
8. Bishop Montgomery, Torrance, Calif. (23-1)
Previous: 8.
Low-down: After a nail-biting loss to No. 2 Chino Hills the previous week, the Knights bounced back with two lopsided wins. The regular season concludes Wednesday with Cantwell-Sacred Heart (Montebello).
9. La Lumiere School, La Porte, Ind. (22-3)
Previous: 9.
Low-down: The Lakers didn’t miss a beat in wins over local rivals Bowman Academy (Gary), 87-59, and Marquette Catholic (Michigan City), 88-60. Junior F Brian Bowen totaled 47 points in both wins but his state line vs. Marquette was 22 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. It’s exam week on the northwest Indiana campus so coach Shane Heirman’s club plays Saturday against Lighthouse Christian (Nashville, Tenn.).
10. St. John’s College, Washington, D.C. (23-2)
Previous: 11.
Low-down: Dejuan Clayton paced the offense with 18 points when the Cadets moved to 14-1 in the highly competitive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference following a 73-53 drubbing of Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.).The final week of the regular season won’t be easy to navigate when the Cadets face No. 12 DeMatha (Hyattsville) on Tuesday, Bishop O’Connell (Arlington, Va.) on Friday and Bishop McNamara for the reverse fixture on Monday. That game with DeMatha should determine the WCAC regular season champion and top seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
11. DeMatha, Hyattsville, Md. (21-3)
Previous: 12.
Low-down: After dusting three Washington Catholic Athletic Conference opponents, the Stags go for the season’s sweep of No. 10 St. John’s College (Washington, D.C.) on Tuesday with first place on the line. Four other games, including two with Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.), will test the Stags’ legs.
12. Sierra Canyon School, Chatsworth, Calif. (21-3)

13. Neumann-Goretti, Philadelphia (20-2)
Previous: 14.
Low-down: The Saints claimed the regular season Philadelphia Catholic League championship and top seed in the tournament after trouncing Father Judge (Philadelphia), 86-66, and Conwell-Egan (Fairless Hills, Pa.), 85-44, upping their mark to a sparkling 13-0. The next assignment is Friday in the quarterfinals against Father Judge or Archbishop Wood (Warminster, Pa.).
14. Morgan Park, Chicago (19-2)
Previous: 15.
Low-down: In the Chicago Public League playoffs, the Mustangs rolled over Orr (Chicago), 89-58 in the South Quadrant first round. They play Hyde Park (Chicago) On Wednesday. The quarterfinals are Saturday. Charlie Moore provided 25 points and 6 assists when the Mustangs stopped Hazelwood Central (Florissant, Mo.), 76-65, at the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout in O’Fallon, Ill.
15. Stevens Point, Wis. (18-0)
Previous: 17.
Low-down: The double-digit triumvirate of Trev Anderson (26.4 points), Sam Hauser (19.3) and Joey Hauser (18.7) average nearly a combined 75 points per outing. The Panthers have home contests this week with Lacrosse Central on Tuesday and Merrill on Friday.
16. St. Benedict’s, Newark, N.J. (22-1)
Previous: 18.
Low-down: C Arnardo “The Bull” Toro played like the translation of his surname last. The George Washington recruit totaled 48 points and 23 rebounds, staking the Gray Bees to wins over in-state rivals Lawrenceville Prep, 80-59, and Peddie School (Hightstown), 72-64.
17. Simeon, Chicago (19-3)
Previous: 19.
Low-down: The Wolverines stopped Collins (Chicago), 82-29, the first round of the Chicago Public League. Next is Dunbar (Chicago) in the second round and the winner gets King or Whitney Young in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
18. Wayne, Huber Heights, Ohio (17-0)
Previous: 21.
Low-down: The Warriors had a rare midweek scare, holding off Springfield, 64-61, but wrecked two other opponents. The regular season wraps up Friday against Centerville for a perfect 10-0 mark in the Greater Western Ohio Conference.
19. Patrick School, Elizabeth, N.J. (16-4)
Previous: 22.
Low-down: In a slowdown match, the Celtics outlasted rival Elizabeth, 30-14. This weekend there are two fixtures at the Primetime Shootout with St. Thomas More (Oakdale, Conn.) on Saturday and Our Savior New American (Centereach, N.Y.) on Sunday in nearby Roselle.
20. Mater Dei, Santa Ana, Calif. (23-3)
Previous: 25.
Low-down: C M.J. Cage, an Oregon recruit, had a weekend to remember in a pair of key wins, manufacturing 42 points on 16-of-23 shooting at the Nike Extravaganza. In a 61-53 decision over regionally ranked Foothills Christian (El Cajon), he contributed 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocked shots while hitting going 8 of 13 from the floor. He also had 22 points to beat Shadow Mountain (Phoenix), 79-72.
21. DeSoto, Texas (26-2)
Previous: 10.
Low-down: Thud! That was the Eagles crashing back to earth last Friday when South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie) sprang a 56-51 shocker. C Marques Bolden, a McDonald’s All American, scored 26 points but he had little help. The Eagles are 8-1 and still atop the District 8-6A standings and play Cedar Hill on Tuesday.
22. Peabody, Alexandria, La. (26-1)
Previous: 23.
Low-down: Coach Charles Smith’s team unleashed another double-fisted pop of fury, tallying 90 and 105 points in two district victories. Four games remain in the regular season.
23. Chaminade, St. Louis (18-5)
Previous: 24.
Low-down: Duke-bound F Jayson Tatum posted 31 points, making 5 of 8 from downtown, and snatched 7 rebounds in a 93-38 route of Vianney (St. Louis). This weekend the Red Devils have back-to-back games with league rivals DeSmet Jesuit St. Louis) and Christian Brothers College (St. Louis).
24. Garfield, Seattle (17-2)
Previous: 20.
Low-down: The Bulldogs were upended by rivals Rainier Beach (Seattle), 76-69, to halt the win streak at 10 games. The school also retired three-time NBA All-Star Brandon Roy’s No. 4 jersey before the Ballard (Seattle) game and only the second player in program history to have the honor. Next are the 3A Metro playoffs this week.

Low-down: The Mustangs are 11-0 in District 8-AAA after two wins last week.
