WILD WEEKEND: No. 2 St. John Bosco (CA), No. 3 IMG Academy (FL) hold serve on Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings with signature wins

BENSALEM, Pa. – There were three pairings involving teams from the Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings and two from the top-3 recorded big-time wins showing they are worthy of such lofty status.

No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and No. 3 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) captured games against Elite 25 teams.

There were no additions to the Elite 25 but for the second straight week, St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) dropped a game and in the rankings. The Panthers have lost to a pair of teams from the Elite 25 and have cratered from inside in the top-5 to the cusp of being vanquished. The Panthers will face a formidable foe in Illinois powerhouse East St. Louis.

Ten teams, including the top-6, held their rank. No. 8 North Shore (Galena Park, Texas) and No. 9 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) advanced two slots while No. 11 St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia) dipped three after a 17-14 decision against IMG Academy in Ocean City, N.J.

Finally, we get a chance to see No. 6 Central (Miami) play. The Rockets are headed out west and into the Nevada desert for a national matchup at No. 5 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) on Friday. That’s as good as it gets and a fantastic way to kick off the month of September.

Well, that’s it for another week. The month of August will be history this week and the East Coast schools will return to school shortly. Enjoy the Labor Day weekend and drive safely because the roads will be jammed.

The Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings return on Sept. 5.

Additionally, the Blue Star Media Net 25 girls’ volleyball rankings will drop next week. Keep up on X (formerly Twitter) for the volleyball announcement.

Until then stay safe. We hope to see you at a game soon. – Christopher Lawlor
