The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association has announced the participants for the 2013 WBCA High School All-America Game presented by NIKE. This will be the 22nd year the event has been held and will be played April 6th in conjunction with the NCAA Women’s Division I Final Four in New Orleans.
The 20 players selected represent some of the top scholastic players nationwide in the 2013 class. The state of California leads the way with five selections followed by Georgia with three. Arkansas and Indiana have two each and eight states weigh in with one representative. Last summer’s FIBA U17 World Championship USA U17 team has 10 members among the WBCA selections while two more competed on the FIBA Americas gold medal U18 squad. Duke and North Carolina have three commitments each in the lineup while Notre Dame and Stanford both have two. Of the 20 participants, only one remains uncommitted at this point in time.
The selection committee is made up WBCA members who chose between nominations from scholastic and club coaches who are also active WBCA members. It’s important to note that college coaches are not eligible to nominate athletes for consideration.
The 2013 selection committee is also composed of Stacy Bilodeau, Walpole High School (Mass.); Eric Smith, Cicero-North Syracuse High School (N.Y.); Jody Patrick, Flint Hill School (Va.); Tony Smith, Bolingbrook High School (Ill.); Kelly Flynn, South Sioux City High School (Neb.); Teri Morrison, Carroll Senior High School (Texas); Carl Mattei, Regis Jesuit High School (Colo.); Kevin Kiernan, Mater Dei High School (Calif.); Angie Hembree, Norcross High School (Ga.); and Gary Glasscock, Metro High School (Mo.) who is past chair.
The announcement for the prestigious McDonald’s All-American game will be broadcast Thursday, February 14 at 5 p.m. ET on ESPNU. The game will be played once again in Chicago at the United Center on April 3rd with coverage provided by ESPN. Blue Star Media will be on hand both in Chicago and New Orleans for all the action.
