PATTERSON, N.J.- The sixth annual New Year’s Resolution showcase hosted by the New Jersey Sparks took place this weekend at Paterson Kennedy and Paterson Eastside high school. The event hosted over 35 high school teams from seven states and Blue Star Media and NYG Hoops Report was on hand for all three days. Below you will find some of the top prospects at the event.

Andrea Aquino – 2018 – 6-9 – Post – Eastside (N.J.)

The sky is the limit for this prospect.  Every time we see her in action she gets better and adds some much needed strength and confidence. Aquino did a good job rebounding this weekend and is progressing as an offensive threat particularly from 8-12 foot range.

Breyenne Bellerand – 2017 – 5-9 – Wing / Guard – Immaculate Conception (N.J.)

This strong built prospect played with intensity and has a good team-first attitude. She bullies opponents over with her incredible core strength. The athletic and energetic Bellaerand is a strong defender both on and off the ball. She makes winning plays plus has a great motor and energy. She did show that she can score from the mid-range as well as create easy shots for teammates.

Quadasha Hoppie – 2017 – 5-9 – Point Guard – The Patrick School (N.J.)

Hoppie is a long, strong, heady point guard with good size, athletic ability and instincts. She uses her mixture of quickness, strength and aggressiveness to defend bigger players as well as getting to the rim on the other end. She plays on a small team and at times is asked to defend the opposing post. In addition to her play making, scoring and defensive abilities, Hoppie has good court vision and is willing to make the unselfish play to set up her teammates.

Aziah Hudson – 2018 – 5-7 – Guard – Baldwin (N.Y.)

Hudson is a quick, aggressive guard with a knack for getting to the rim and finishing through contact. She used her quickness and length while remarkably applying pressuring when guarding the ball. She played bigger than her listed size.  Her aggressiveness allowed her to get involved in rebounds that were not in her area as well as aiding her in guarding bigger players.

Tyah Hunter – 2017 – 6-0 Wing – TPLS Christian Academy (Va.)

Hunter’s length is not tremendous, but she still has good size for a small forward. She showed a nice first step in taking defenders off of the dribble, but was equally effective when pulling up for mid-range jumpers. Throughout the weekend she impressed as a capable ball handler and passer who has some unselfish playmaking ability. (Committed to Furman)

Masseny Kaba – 2017 – 6-3 – Forward – Cathedral – (Mass.)

This long forward that had a good day on the boards, especially the offensive glass. She was relentless in seeking out the ball. She also did a solid job defending in the post as well as guarding opponents in open space. She may not have been credited for many blocks but her presence in the lane deterred the opposition.

Valerie Nesbitt – 2017 – 5-6 – Point Guard – Potter’s House Christian Academy (Fla.)

Nesbit made winning plays going hard on both ends of the court. She’s also a confident floor-leader who likes to push the tempo and deliver in transition. The junior showed the ability to handle the ball versus pressure and is a smooth athlete that elevates when attacking the rim.

Destiny Philoxy – 2018 – 5-7 – Point Guard – South Shore (N.Y.)

Philoxy is a long, lanky and crafty point guard that can defend and get into the lane. The left hander did a good job feeding the post and getting the ball to the right person at the right time. She is one of many South Shore guards, but she was the most effective and efficient at the New Year’s Resolution finishing with 14 points in their lone game.

Akiene Tera Reed – 2017 – 6-3 – Guard / Wing – Life Center Academy (N.J.)

Reed lets the game come to her rarely forcing the issue while playing under control. She’ll take advantage of her size to post smaller wings. She gets her shots in a number of ways; spot-up, through cuts and even can be a threat off the step back.

Mimi Reid – 2017 – 5-8 – Point Guard – Bishop Loughlin (N.Y.)

This junior is a strong, heady high school combo with good size and instincts with the ability to set up teammates while making scoring plays herself. She has a natural feel for the game that combines with a great maturity and toughness. Reid gets into the lane effortlessly, absorbs contact and always finds the strength to get her shot off while getting to the free throw line to convert.

Michelle Sidor – 2019 – 5-10 – Saddle River Day School (N.J.)

This kid is a flat out scorer. She showed a level of competitiveness you see in all special players. She carried her team to a fourth quarter, come from behind victory against a talented Baldwin team. She proved to be an efficient scorer with a strong motor.  Sidor has good range on her shot and can shoot off the dribble. When crowded she showed the ability to put the ball on the floor and created with the ability to finish at the rim. The freshman finished with 34 points in her lone game at the event and is currently the leading scorer in New Jersey to date.
