Ballin In ‘Bama

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama High School Athletic Association puts on a first class championship basketball event which includes both Three Point and Dunk contests.  The Final 48, considered one of the best in the country, once again offered up evidence that Alabama is not just a football state with the play of the many BCS and mid major signees and younger prospects on hand.  The following is a list of top performers.

Top Performers

2018

5-6 Lakhhilian Rankins (Faith Academy) – Has ice water in her veins and not afraid to make the big play.  Looking forward to watching her game evolve.

2016

6-0 Guard Harriet Winchester (Keith HS) – Long, athletic and lives up to the name Winchester.  BCS caliber prospect who can really shoot the ball.

5-8 Cierra Johnson (Blount HS) – Silky smooth PG with great handles with great court vision.

6-2 Kaitlyn Rogers (Wenonah HS) – College body, long arms and extremely athletic. Rogers has BCS written all over here game.

5-5 Ivy Wallen (Lauderdale County) – Sue Bird toughness in an ultra-competitive guard.

5-5 Emma Wallen (Lauderdale County) – Smooth point guard with great handles…a perfect complement to her twin Ivy.

2015

6-3 Tatyana Calhoun (Carver HS) – Has the college body that coaches love including long arms.  Finishes well in the paint and a shot blocker at the other end.

6-0 Juanisha Young (Faith Academy)- Long and athletic.  Rebounds well and a solid defender with a huge upside.

5-5 Aaliyah Bell (Hoover HS) – Another solid point guard.  Tough defender who does an excellent job of running the show.

5-10 Shaquera Wade (Huntsville HS) – An athletic, multi-talented guard with the ability to defend multiple positions. Only going to get better as time goes by.

2014

5-5 Keyuanna Thompson (Carver HS) – Attacking point guard and solid defender.  Legitimate D-I prospect

5-10 Destiney Elliott (Oneonta HS) – Can score it inside as well as step out with a nice stroke beyond the arc.

5-9 Chatara Cox (Lauderdale HS) – Athletic guard  who does a great job attacking off the bounce and finishing.  Works extremely hard.

6-1 Riley Northway (Brewer HS) – Hard nose post with ability to shoot the 3 ball.  Low to mid D-I prospect.

5-6 Whytney Singleton (Blount HS) – Nice combo guard who does a lot of good things on the floor.  Mid to high prospect.

5-8 Jameka Holmes (Wenonah HS) – Holmes has college body, loves to attack off the dribble and finishes well in traffic. Every team needs a guard like her.

5-8 Laporsche Grissett (Blount HS) – Long, athletic guard who has the ability to score from perimeter or attack the paint. Uses her long arms to create havoc on the defensive end.

5-7 Kendra Fowler (Carver HS) – Scrappy athletic guard who defends extremely well. 
 
2013

5-9 Jasmine Rhodes (Faith Academy) – The future LSU Lady Tiger is very explosive with a sweet stroke that extends out to 19 feet. Will be a nice addition for Coach Nikki Caldwell

6-1 Marqu’es Webb (Hoover HS) – To say the Vanderbilt signee was a force is the paint would be a tremendous understatement.  After her state final performance she should major in real estate because she simply owned the lane with a 29 point and 22 rebound championship game performance.

6-2 Kristen Emerson (Prattville Christian) – Emerson, a Troy signee, had the performance of the tournament with 37 points and 14 rebounds in the 2A Semifinal loss.

6-0 Kara Rawls (Hoover HS) – Alabama signee fought through first half adversity and stepped up huge in the 6A championship the game.

5-9 Breigha Cochran (Hoover HS) – Played a pivotal second half role in helping the Lady Bucs win back to back titles.  A South Alabama signee who will be a welcome addition to Coach Rick Pietri’s ball club.
