BENSALEM, Pa. – The topsy-turvy world of Georgia Class AAAAAAA high school football just added another twist.

The bottom seven spots in the latest Blue Star Media Elite 25 football rankings contain four teams from Georgia’s largest classification. If the regular season is this crazy then the playoffs are must-see football.

The most recent salvo occurred in southern Georgia at the Winnersville Classic in Valdosta. No. 18 Lowndes County (Valdosta) shut out rival Valdosta (the top-ranked Class AAAAAA), 24-0. That vanquished then-No. 19 Valdosta from the Elite 25 and opened the door for the Vikings to join the mix of elite teams.

Continuing in Georgia, No. 19 Colquitt County (Norman Park) pasted then-No. 20 Grayson (Loganville), 31-7. Grayson dropped five spots following the loss and has little room for error but the same can be said for the remainder of the Elite 25.

No. 24 Marietta (Ga.) remained in the Elite 25, moving up a slot.

No. 22 St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, N.J.) plummeted 14 places after a blowout loss to No. 8 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore), 28-0. The Green Knights enter a critical stretch of league games fueled by dates with St. Peter’s Prep (Jersey City), Bergen Catholic (Oradell), Paramus Catholic and Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey), and the New Jersey Non-Public A playoffs in November.

The Blue Star Media Elite 25 rankings will return on Oct. 1.

If you haven’t already attended a game this season be sure to get out Friday night or Saturday afternoon. We hope to see you at a game soon. — Christopher Lawlor
